Privacy Policy

RICE is operated by LocalID Pty Ltd, Johannesburg, South Africa, the responsible party for your personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Your files stay in your browser

Convert, reproject, coordinates, simplify and clip, elevation, and LAS/LAZ compression all read and write your file inside your browser tab. The file is never uploaded to us, never stored on our servers, and is gone from memory when you close the tab. We cannot see the contents of anything you process with those tools.

Features that use a third-party server

• Bulk geocode and the address search in Map print send the address text you enter — and nothing else — to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim service, one request at a time.
• Map print loads basemap tiles from OpenStreetMap and Esri. Like any map website, those providers receive the map area in view and your IP address.

What we collect

We do not collect your card details, we do not sell personal information, and we do not use your files for any purpose.

Payments

Premium is sold by our reseller Paddle.com, the Merchant of Record. Paddle collects your name, email, billing address and payment details, processes the payment, calculates tax and runs fraud checks, under Paddle's Privacy Policy. Paddle shares with us only what we need to provide your subscription: your email, the customer and subscription references, and the payment status.

Advertising and cookies

RICE sets no marketing cookies of its own. The Free plan carries advertising served by Google AdSense, which uses cookies:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to RICE and other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of other vendors' cookies at aboutads.info.
• Visitors in the EEA, UK or Switzerland are asked for consent before any personalised ad is shown.

Premium subscribers see no advertising, and no advertising script is loaded for them. Paddle sets the cookies needed to complete a payment securely.

Who we share with

Only the service providers named above: Paddle (payments), Supabase (our database), Google (advertising on the Free plan), and OpenStreetMap and Esri (maps and geocoding). Some of them process information outside South Africa; we rely on their contractual safeguards for those transfers, as POPIA section 72 allows.

How long we keep it

Subscription and billing records are kept for as long as you subscribe and then for five years, as South African tax law requires. Everything else is deleted when you ask us to, or when you clear your browser's storage.

Your rights

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, and you may object to processing. Write to info@cartesiasa.com; we reply within 30 days. Deleting your information cancels any active subscription at the end of the paid month.

We process your information to perform our contract with you and, for billing records, for our legitimate interest in resolving disputes. RICE is subject to the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa. If you are in the EU or UK, the equivalent rights under the GDPR apply and you may complain to your local supervisory authority.

Children

RICE is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy, the effective date above will change. For material changes we will email Premium subscribers in advance.
